Buckhannon-Upshur High School
Band
Guidelines 2009-2010
You are now a member of an organization older and larger than yourselves. Hundreds of
people who watch and support you are former band members. Your actions are to be respectful, courteous, deferential, and responsible.
You personally can bring credit or shame to the band.
1)
Belligerent attitudes, offensive language,
smoking and drinking have NO place in band activities. Drugs WILL NOT be
tolerated. Infractions may result in immediate dismissal.
2) Special performance items:
A) BE punctual. Early is on time.
B) No gum, no overt make-up or jewelry. Long hair is to be tucked under helmets, or
pulled back. Gentlemen, we are clean-shaven for performances.
C)
Cell phone use is not allowed, unless, specially permitted.
D) Concert attire: Whites and polos, unless otherwise noted.
E) Parades, games/shows: SSAC rules require attendance in school on game days. Concession
visits during 3rd quarter only. You are due back ready to play at the 4th quarter buzzer. NO TALKING
AT ATTENTION.
F) Any uniformed situation: visually, YOU
are the entire band.
You are responsible for a clean presentation. No public displays
of affection except for hand-holding.
G) Unexcused absences will result in a grade letter cut.
3)
You don’t have to like everything
we do. You do have to get the job done, and done well. Keep your grades up, your instrument clean, and your ears open. You
personally can bring credit or shame to the band. Make your decisions accordingly.
4)
Problems always come up. Ask for help. I am asking for yours.
